Performance
- Both models offer an available 6.2-liter V-8 (420 horsepower, 460 pound-feet of torque). However, the Silverado’s 13,300-pound max tow rating is a bit more than the Sierra 1500’s 13,000 pounds.
- With the available 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel (305 hp, 495 lb-ft), both trucks can tow up to 13,000 with 4WD. However, the RWD Silverado (13,300) slightly edges out the RWD Sierra (13,200).
Design and Accommodations
- While both models have bold exterior styling, the GMC Sierra aims for a more refined aesthetic with sharper character lines, larger grille options, and dynamic lighting clusters. It also has a more squared-off front end and more angular wheel arches. The Sierra Denali Ultimate looks particularly prodigious with its Vader Chrome accents and 22-inch wheels.
- The situation is similar inside, where the Sierra strives for a more refined cabin experience. The differences are most noticeable in lower tiers, where the Sierra exhibits smoother, less plastic-looking surfaces. Both trucks can be optioned for ultra-premium luxury. However, the Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate takes it to the next level with its beautiful “Alpine Umber” interior, including full-grain leather, Paldao wood trim, and laser-etched/embossed topographical maps of Mt. Denali on the dashboard, doors, and seatbacks.
Features
- The Sierra 1500 offers a few amenities at lower trim levels. For example, the Sierra SLE gets dual-zone automatic climate control, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and heated front seats. The Silverado has these features in the fourth-tier LT trim.
- GMC’s innovative MultiPro Tailgate is standard on all but base-level Sierra, where it’s an option. The Silverado offers a similar Multi-Flex Tailgate, but it’s not standard equipment for any trim. The GMC MultiPro tailgate has available integrated audio, a feature the Silverado doesn’t offer yet.
- The Sierra’s available Bose® audio system has 12 speakers, while the Silverado has seven. The Sierra has up to 16-way front-seat adjustability compared to the Silverado’s 10. Additionally, the Sierra offers a Carbon Pro bed and front seat massage options, which the Silverado doesn’t.
